Obama’s Inauguration Day

Today at 12pm Eastern Standard Time, Barack Obama took the oath of office to become the United States 44th President. This as we all know was a historic day, not just for the U.S. but for the world as a whole. President Obama is the first man of African decent to lead any Western nation here or in Europe. May he not be the last. Though this day was a great cause for celebration the world over, it was also tempered by the knowledge that the world and indeed the U.S. have a long long way to go. President Obama spoke to these concerns and many others in his inauguration speech and also set a new course for the United States to follow. For those who missed the speech, the text can be found here.

It is my sincere hope that President Obama sticks to his campaign promises as I’m sure is the case with many of you out there. However, this being said, let us not get ahead of ourselves. The journey is a long and difficult one but so long as our course stays true we can all make it out of this together, left, right and everything in between. So here’s to our new President, a new day and a new hope to make a difference in this world.

  1. I liked some of the jabs he did: “On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.”
